
Hanks was seen with Ron Howard in his next character, which was as Commander and Astronaut Jim Lovell in Apollo 13 (1995). Many critics praised the film and the performances of the entire cast that included actors Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris and Kathleen Quinlan. The film received nine Academy Award nominations and won two. Hanks was the voice of Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's 1995 computer-animated feature Toy Story (1995). His directorial debut came one year later with the film You Do! (1996) which chronicles the rise and fall of a 1960s music group. Hanks also played the role as a music producer. Time magazine's Richard Schickel called it "charming" and the majority of reviewers agree that Hanks' performance earned him a spot among the top romantic comedy actors of in his generation.
