Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a public speaker. Feminist Frequency is a website which hosts video and commentary looking at the portrayals of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. She is the founder and executive director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit website which explores representations of women in pop stories of culture. In addition, she works to highlight the problems surrounding sexual harassment and attack on women and others of minority groups in the online world, she is dedicated to breaking down the stigmas and stereotypes prevalent in pop culture. Sarkeesian who has the degree of Master's in Social and Political Thinking at York University, is a well-known public speaking. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. She has been interested in the gender issue and feminist movements since a early age. When she graduated in 2009, continuing to study at the university level she started her Feminist Frequency web site. Someone who hoped to start a web-series examining the gender representation of video games, she was targeted by an internet-based campaign. The attack did have been a hindrance, rather it was a boost to her determination as a feminist media critic. Her notable contributions to the feminist field have been recognized by numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning journalist. She also serves as the creator and director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that explores pop culture representations of females.
