Kelly Clarkson, an American artist, actress and singer who was crowned the American Idol competition in its first season, became the most popular national star. This win was not only a catalyst for her becoming a household name, but led to her signing a contract for a number of albums with RCA Records 19 Recordings as well as 'S Records. Since then, she's put out many studio albums, three of which reached the top of the US Billboard 200' chart as the others narrowly missed the coveted spot.
